Project
EVALCOMPLIN is a research project developed by the Measurement and Evaluation Group of the University of Valencia. Its main objective is to design and validate an instrument to assess linguistic competence, specifically oral expression, in schoolchildren in the second cycle of Infant Education and the first cycle of Primary Education, both in Spanish and Valencian.
The project is based on the importance of the adequate development of language and oral expression for the personal and academic growth of children. The evaluation is based on narrative strategies, analysing narrative tasks as a means of assessing oral expression.
The methodology of the project is of a mixed nature, combining quantitative and qualitative approaches to establish criteria for defining assessments rubrics. The study involves multidisciplinary teams, including pedagogues, educational psychologists, teachers and language specialists.
A key feature of EvalComplin is its focus on developing a test that can be easily and quickly applied by teachers in schools. The validation process includes the multi-group analysis, covering different language groups (Spanish, Valencian, Chinese and English) in different contexts.
The project aims to have a high social impact, with the vision of establishing, in collaboration with universities and pre-university educational centres, an observatory of children's language development.
